A Chance to Learn about Durham Public Schools Funding

We received this information from our friends over at NC Moms Rising.  This looks like a great chance for our local Durham families to learn about Durham schools, so I wanted to pass it along.
Ever wonder how statewide budget decisions impact schools in our community?  Want to learn how cuts to K-12 education, early learning programs, child care subsidies, other family services are impacting yours and other local families? This is your chance to find out!
What it is: Please join us for “Our Community, Our Priorities:  A Conversation on How NC’s Budget Impacts Durham’s Children and Families” to learn about the impact of the recent state budget and how you can get involved in shaping the decisions that affect the Durham community.

Speakers will include staff of the NC Budget & Tax Center and the Together NC coalition as well as local leaders, parents, and residents sharing their stories of how recent changes have affected Durham families. We’ll also hear about what to expect in the year ahead and how we can work together to make sure next year’s budget reflects the priorities of Durham’s community.

The public forum will be followed by your choice of several one hour workshops on how you can make your voice heard in next year’s budget debate including how to be an effective parent advocate, understanding funding for education, how your organization can get involved, and how to talk about the budget to your friends and neighbors.  There will also be an opportunity to share your own story of how the budget is impacting your family and community.

When: Thursday, October 11, 6-8:30 pm.  A resource fair will start at 6 pm and the program will begin 6:30.  Snacks will be provided. Child care is not offered, though children are welcome.
Where: Durham School of the Arts at 400 North Duke Street.
